Full Stack Software Engineer (Backend-Leaning)
We’re seeking an engineer with 2–5 years of experience who enjoys building end-to-end systems, solving complex problems, and working across a variety of projects and technologies. You’ll play a hands-on role in designing and developing scalable applications, backend services, and integrations while collaborating closely with our designers, strategists, and other engineers to deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for both internal initiatives and client work. This role blends website development expertise with technical project management, requiring someone who can both build and help guide projects from concept through execution.

Required Qualifications:
- 2–5 years of professional full-stack development experience
- Strong in TypeScript and PHP
- Experience building product applications with React and/or Next.js
- Backend/API development experience (Node.js preferred)
- Experience deploying and operating applications in AWS
- Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Comfortable debugging issues across frontend and backend
- Familiarity with Git version control and collaborative development workflows
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Based in the Washington, DC metro area
Extra Credit Qualifications:
- Experience with React Native or mobile app development
- Experience customizing WordPress, including plugins and performance optimization
- Familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, or infrastructure automation
- Exposure to SEO performance optimization, web performance tuning, and accessibility best practices
- Experience in an agency or multi-project environment
- Comfortable contributing to technical scoping and architecture discussions
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web and mobile applications using modern frameworks such as Next.js, React, and React Native, with a backend focus on scalable services and APIs.
- Architect and implement backend services deployed on AWS, integrating with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and third-party APIs.
- Build and customize WordPress-based platforms when required, including plugin configuration, custom integrations, performance optimization, and secure deployments.
- Debug and resolve complex frontend and backend issues, improving system reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Implement responsive, mobile-first user interfaces and validate behavior across browsers, devices, and screen sizes.
- Perform regular system maintenance, upgrades, security patches, and regression testing to ensure production stability.
- Evaluate and recommend development tools, libraries, and workflows that improve developer productivity, code quality, and deployment reliability.
- Collaborate with designers, brand strategists, SEO specialists, and project managers to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Participate in technical discovery, estimation, and architecture discussions for new projects and internal initiatives.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs, timelines, and implementation details clearly with internal stakeholders and, when appropriate, clients.
- Maintain clear technical documentation covering system architecture, deployment processes, and ongoing maintenance procedures.
